REPORTS TO: Lead Mechanical Engineer
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUMMARY:
Provides engineering analysis, design, and fabrication support for a variety of highly technical projects in a manufacturing environment under the supervision of a Lead Engineer.
Supports project engineering activities related to planning, directing, and testing of products and projects.
Analyzes and interprets complex customer specifications, including reference to official industry and national standards.
Develops technical designs, calculations, and documentation in accordance with the company’s NQA-1 quality systems.
Applies creativity and resourcefulness to develop non-traditional methods and practices to satisfy novel project demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design
Creates or interprets specifications, data sheets, process flow diagrams, 3D models, 2D drawings, P&ID’s.
Aides in developing 3D models, drawings, and detailed manufacturing plans
Prepares calculations and/or analyses to verify a design against the design requirements.
Participates in technical reviews and project status meetings in support of the Lead Engineer.
Remains cognizant of current design practices, skills, and industry best practices.
Quality
Prepares project-related design deliverables and NQA-1 documentation as needed.
Develops project-related conformance documentation – testing, manuals, plans, etc..
Produces detailed technical submittal documents to satisfy quality tracking requirements.
Assists and writes design change notices, deviation requests and non-conformance reports.
Project Engineering
Works with project teams and customers to ensure the products conform to customer requirements and meet customer needs.
Aides in planning design activities related to a job, including setting schedule milestones and review points.
Specifies and quotes complex or non-stock items in support of procurement activities.
Develops Production Travelers using software tools in conjunction with shop drawings for fabrication.
Supports production staff throughout the fabrication of schedule of a project.
Performs or oversees factory and site acceptance testing, including traveling to customer facilities.
NO SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution (0-3yrs experience) or Technical Associates Degree (2-5yrs experience).
Well-rounded background in core mechanical engineering concepts and principles.
Strong manufacturing background in custom fabrication desired.
Familiarity or experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standard strongly desired.

Ability to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and processes.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to coordinate and communicate with outside suppliers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as calculations, specifications and code requirements, and procedure manuals.
Has In-depth knowledge of diversified, fundamental scientific mechanical engineering concepts, phenomena, and relations.
Has the knowledge of development and derivation of formulas and relationships, basic assumptions made, and limitations and areas of applicability of established mechanical engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Candidate must possess strong computer knowledge and be familiar with standard Microsoft Office software in addition to SolidWorks, PRO/E, AutoCad or other drafting/modeling software. Solidworks strongly preferred.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
