AECOM seeking a Roadway Design Engineer to join our Roadway Design team in our Raleigh, NC office. This is a part-time position expected to work 16 hours per week which could vary, depending on project and client needs. This position offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with roadway design, plan production, and exposure to all phases of transportation projects — from concept through construction.
Responsibilities include:
Lead the design and preparation of roadway construction plans including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and quantity summaries.
Support in developing right-of-way (ROW) plans, maintenance of traffic (MOT) layouts, and cost estimates.
Serve as a technical resource for other members of the team.
Apply NCDOT roadway design standards , manuals, and plan preparation procedures.
Draft and revise plan sheets using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
Perform engineering calculations for horizontal and vertical geometry.
Support the coordination of utilities, SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering), and other design disciplines.
Participate in field reviews, data collection, and coordination meetings with project stakeholders.
Maintain organized project files and documentation following company and NCDOT QA/QC procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
BS degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related discipline + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Experience with civil design principles, roadway geometry, and CAD drafting
PE certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with NCDOT Design Manual, Plan Preparation Guide, and Standard Drawings
Experience with MS Office, MicroStation or OpenRoads Designer in an academic or professional setting
8+ years of related roadway or transportation design experience
Interest in learning MicroStation , OpenRoads Designer , and NCDOT plan preparation standards
Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
