AECOM is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with strong technical background and attention to detail to be based in Germantown, MD (though there is some option for locating at another National Capital office).
This role will support a wide range of geotechnical projects across multiple sectors, including major infrastructure, federal, commercial (data‑center development etc.), in diverse geologies and locations throughout the U.S. and internationally.
In this role, you will be aligned with our Germantown geotechnical team and collaborate with other interdisciplinary teams from Germantown and additional locations throughout the US East to provide consulting services for impactful infrastructure projects. Our team offers geotechnical expertise across various sectors, and you will have the chance to work on projects both locally, regionally and globally, covering all phases from planning and site investigation to detailed design and construction.
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of mid- to large-scale projects, including managing subsurface investigations, conducting engineering analysis, preparing geotechnical design recommendations, and overseeing design and reporting to fulfill client requirements and project goals. You will also mentor junior engineers and foster team connections.

Job Responsibilities:
Leads and manages mid-to-large projects.
Coordinates and provides technical expertise for various projects.
Leads, develops and maintains client relationships.
Leads discipline /department efforts to grow technical expertise.
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Approves and signs off on work.
Leader in one or more areas of technology.
Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large, complex projects
Leads proposal efforts including preparing interdisciplinary scopes and budgets
Implements Quality program for consistency and accuracy of work
Contributes/leads business development efforts
Mentors junior and mid‑level engineers and helps support their technical development; potential for future supervisory duties based on interest and team needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in geotechnical engineering
Active PE License
Preferred Qualifications:
15+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering
2+ years of project management experience
Masters in Geotechnical Engineering
Experienced in subsurface investigation planning and execution, foundation design (shallow and deep), slope stability, seepage analysis, retaining wall design, settlement analyses, ground improvement techniques
Experience performing geotechnical design in Tidewater region (VA, DC, MD) including experience with soft soils and ground improvement
Experience with large infrastructure projects, data center projects
Seismic and liquefaction experience
