About the Position:

As a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor III, you will support the community by delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).


What You Will Do:
  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum. Leads and participates in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participation and completion.
  • Works directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  • Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, records visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants. 
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  • Completes all delivery documentation requirements. Summarizes participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes. 
  • Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • May mentor Counselor I and II Level AOD Counselors/OMCP Mentors.
  • Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.
  • Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What You Will Bring:
  • A Master’s Degree in a social service-related field; and Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
  • An Associate’s Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
  • AOD certified and more than two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • An understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communications, and typing skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
  •  Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.

$32 - $32 an hour
This is a Non-Exempt position. Hourly wage: $32/hr
