Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Space Systems
Skills
- Expert PCBA manufacturing (SMT, through-hole, conformal coating, potting)
- Deep knowledge of IPC-610/620 Class 3, IPC J-STD-001 Space Addendum, NASA-STD-8739 series
- Experience with MES, ERP/MRP (SAP, Oracle, Odoo), digital work instructions and SPC
- Root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (8D, 5-Why, PFMEA)
- Tooling and fixture design with CAD/3D modeling
- Supplier qualification, audits, and AS9100 familiarity
- Production scaling and automation implementation
- Strong technical communication and cross-functional leadership
- Eligibility for U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for PCBAs, box-level assemblies, electro-optical instruments, and integrated spacecraft systems
- Drive DFM/DFA from concept to production and provide hands-on technical leadership to manufacturing technicians
- Lead quality assurance, perform RCAs, implement CAPAs, PFMEA, process validation, and FAI
- Specify, qualify, and deploy assembly tools, fixtures, test equipment, and automation; design custom tooling using CAD/3D
- Implement and optimize MES and ERP/MRP workflows and digital work instructions for traceability and efficiency
- Manage technical supplier relationships, conduct audits and qualification activities, and drive supplier improvements
- Participate in PDR/CDR/MRR/PRR and communicate manufacturing status, risks, and mitigations to cross-functional and executive stakeholders
- Analyze production data and lead scaling from low-rate to high-rate production using Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement methods
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and represent Manufacturing Engineering in strategic planning
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline (required)
- Master's degree or equivalent advanced experience (preferred)
