Director of Engineering

CoderPad's mission is to create a more inclusive and strong tech community.

How? By improving the technical interviewing experience with tools that allow for standardization and consistency, while reducing bias and increasing equality of opportunity.

CoderPad is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead multiple North-American and Latin America-based product engineering teams and help shape the technical and organizational direction of our platform. This role combines technical leadership, people leadership, and cross-functional strategy to ensure teams deliver high-quality software while maintaining strong system health and engineering velocity. As a key engineering leader, you will mentor engineering managers, partner closely with Product leadership, and help scale the systems and processes that enable our teams to do their best work.

What does a Director of Engineering at CoderPad do?

Directors of Engineering at CoderPad lead high-performing engineering teams responsible for building and scaling the platform that empowers technical teams to hire with confidence and improve the technical interview process worldwide.

As the global leader in the technical interview space (4,000+ customers in 165+ countries), it is our goal as an Engineering team to build the most realistic, reliable, and customer and candidate-friendly platform for evaluating technical skills.

This role reports to the VP of Engineering.

This role is located in the United States and will work East Coast Hours. It will be responsible for teams across all US time zones and reports to our VP of Engineering.

What you'll be doing:
  • Lead and support multiple engineering teams, lead very senior engineers,  ensuring consistent delivery, strong technical quality, and healthy team operations.

  • Define and guide technical architecture and long-term system strategy across the teams within your scope and in collaboration with EMEA engineering leadership.

  • Own and manage technical roadmaps jointly with the VP of Product, VP of Engineering and Director of Engineering in EMEA.  This includes identifying and addressing technical debt and long-term system health.

  • Partner closely with Product Management to align engineering strategy with product priorities and customer needs.

  • Ensure teams have clear execution plans through effective backlog management, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

  • Drive and protect team velocity: proactively identify blockers, work with product and tech leads to keep delivery cadence high, and treat speed as a first-class engineering value alongside quality.

  • Make decisions with imperfect information, hold yourself and your teams accountable for outcomes over activity, and see work through to completion rather than handing it off

  • Measure team effectiveness and continuously improve delivery processes, engineering practices, and team performance.

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning for senior engineering staff. Manage all hiring, onboarding, performance, and exits on your team.

  • Maintain visibility into system reliability and operational health, and participate in on-call rotations when needed to support operational awareness.

  • Engage directly with customers often to understand their pain points, connect engineering work to real problems, and drive until solutions deliver real customer value.

What you should bring:
  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion spent in technical leadership or management roles.

  • Experience managing engineering teams and engineering managers. Experience in all parts of people management including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance reviews, difficult conversations when necessary.

  • Proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams that deliver complex, reliable software systems.

  • A passion for developer tooling and hands-on fluency with AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) – you use them daily in your own workflow and actively drive their adoption across your teams

  • Experience owning technical strategy, architecture direction, and engineering roadmaps across multiple teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to drive outcomes.

  • Experience operating in fast-moving product organizations with iterative development and continuous delivery. Orientation towards standardization and having teams work effectively together.

  • Experience supporting distributed or globally distributed engineering teams.

  • Strong understanding of system reliability, operational excellence, and maintaining system health at scale.

$250,000 - $275,000 a year
  • Compensation for this role includes: base salary and equity

  • Base salary range (in USD): $250,000.00- $275,000.00

  • Exact salary is based on skills, experience, location, market ranges, and other compensation offered. The salary range does not include equity and company-wide benefits you may be eligible to receive.
