Production Risk Engineer - Lawyers Professional Liability

Counterpart is an insurtech building an Agentic Insurance™ system to proactively assess and manage risk for small businesses. The company seeks a production-focused Risk Engineer to underwrite and grow its Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) book by partnering with brokers, shaping product and pricing, and driving premium production for modern law firms.

Skills

  • 3–7 years underwriting experience in Lawyers Professional Liability or closely related professional liability lines
  • Deep knowledge of law firm exposures, practice area risk dynamics, and specialty liability products
  • Strong broker relationship and business development skills
  • Experience with rating procedures, policy forms, applications, and endorsements
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales and underwriting targets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Comfort working in high-velocity, cross-functional teams and providing actionable market feedback
  • Ability to travel periodically for broker meetings and industry events

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and price Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) accounts quickly and accurately in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Achieve and exceed underwriting performance and revenue goals for the LPL segment.
  • Manage quote-related broker communication to maximize quote-to-bind efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product, data, engineering, and underwriting teams to refine LPL rating logic, guidelines, and policy forms.
  • Provide market feedback and recommend changes to maintain competitiveness and profitability.
  • Support development of underwriting decision trees and automated workflows for LPL classes.
  • Represent Counterpart at broker meetings and industry events to drive broker demand and market presence.
  • Partner with senior underwriting team on complex or unusual LPL exposures.
  • Bind policies and manage portfolio performance through active broker engagement.
  • Contribute to product roadmap and tool improvements as a subject-matter stakeholder.

Education

  • College degree (Bachelor's) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Relevant insurance, risk management, or finance coursework preferred
