Senior Regulatory Engineer - Electrical Distribution

IEM is a 75-year-old electrical distribution company delivering world-class solutions for complex power needs. The Senior Regulatory Engineer will act as the technical authority for codes and standards, guide cross-functional teams on compliance and certification pathways, interface with UL and other NRTLs, and support new product development and ongoing product conformity across IEM’s portfolio.

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of UL 1558, UL 891, UL 1008, UL 67, IEEE C37.20 and related standards
  • Hands-on experience with product testing, certification and listing processes through UL and other NRTLs
  • Proven ability to interpret evolving or ambiguous standards and apply pragmatic compliance solutions
  • Experience coordinating testing, evaluations, and maintaining product certifications/listings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and stakeholder interactions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and documentation practices
  • Cross-functional collaboration and training development experience

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, CSA, ANSI/IEEE C37.20) and translate requirements into actionable guidance
  • Serve as lead technical resource for R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Manufacturing on standards-driven design decisions
  • Act as primary technical interface with UL and other NRTLs to define certification approaches, support testing, and maintain product listings
  • Support new product development, design changes, and component substitutions to ensure alignment with certification requirements
  • Assess changes to codes/standards, determine applicability to products, and provide recommendations and training
  • Develop training and reference materials on codes and standards for internal stakeholders
  • Support expansion of production campuses in the US and Canada with compliance and certification activities

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical/scientific discipline
  • Relevant professional training or certifications in standards or testing (preferred)
