Senior Director of AI, R&D & Agentic Systems
Learneo is a platform of builder-driven businesses (including QuillBot) focused on accelerating productivity and learning with AI-powered products. QuillBot seeks a Senior Director of AI to architect an integrated intelligence layer, lead AI R&D and Applied AI teams, and deliver agentic orchestration and multimodal capabilities that unify products into seamless, scalable workflows for millions of users.
Skills
- Production experience building agentic/orchestration systems at scale
- Deep NLP and multimodal (text + image) applied expertise
- Strong systems architecture and distributed systems knowledge
- MLOps, model deployment, observability, and reliability at consumer scale
- Compute economics and latency-cost-performance trade-off optimization
- Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder alignment
- Experience scaling teams from 0→1 and 1→10 in product environments
Responsibilities
- Define and build orchestration systems for intent recognition, task decomposition, and multi-step agent execution across product surfaces
- Architect agent-native infrastructure and standards enabling machine-readable, executable product surfaces
- Lead R&D across text and multimodal domains and set the model stack strategy (proprietary vs third-party)
- Own production reliability, MLOps cadence, model deployment, and compute economics for consumer-scale traffic
- Manage and grow an integrated AI organization spanning Research, Applied AI, and MLOps
- Drive cross-functional alignment with Engineering, Product, Design, and executive leadership
- Ship production agentic workflows under real user load and iterate rapidly based on metrics
- Hire, restructure, and raise performance standards to meet ambitious technical and product goals
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, ML, AI, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in ML/AI or related area preferred
