Job Description

The NBCU Local Multiplatform team is seeking a strategic, data-driven Social Media Director to expand the reach of our journalism and improve monetization across key social media platforms including Meta, TikTok, and YouTube. This leadership role sits on our Central Multiplatform Team, reporting directly to the VP of Audience Development, working across the NBC and Telemundo local stations and Regional Sports Networks. This individual will play a pivotal role in our local newsrooms’ approach to transforming social journalism through shortform video.   

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of YouTube, podcasting, and platform-native storytelling. You will have the ability to influence both strategy and execution across a diverse and dynamic portfolio and be responsible for ideating and delivering scalable strategies that enhance reach, relevance, revenue, and audience engagement. 

This role will work closely with our local newsrooms and centralized Editorial, Product, Research, Marketing teams and more. You should consider applying for this role if you are an analytical and creative leader with deep platform fluency, editorial excellence, and a strategic mindset. Fluency in both English and Spanish is not required but is a strong plus.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement holistic platform, partnership, content and moderation strategies for Meta, TikTok, and YouTube in alignment with audience growth, engagement, and revenue goals. 

  • Provide platform audits to ensure our efforts are aligned with strategic priorities and help stakeholders deploy resources appropriately.  

  • Work cross-functionally to cross-pollinate successful ideas and strategies across newsrooms and identify opportunities for productization to scale disparate efforts.  

  • Ensure shortform video and platform-first content are created in alignment with platform strategies designed to meet audience and revenue targets.   

  • Create repeatable frameworks and toolkits that enable NBC and Telemundo local stations, as well as RSNs, to execute best-in-class social media strategies around key tentpoles, breaking news and daily news and beat coverage. 

  • Translate editorial and business priorities into tailored strategies for each platform in English and Spanish. 

  • Guide frameworks and best practices for content packaging decisions including titles, thumbnails, hashtags, and SEO optimization. 

  • Lead trainings, workshops, and regular knowledge-sharing sessions with newsroom social and editorial teams. 

  • Set platform KPIs and collaborate with research team to build dashboards for continuous optimization. 

  • Utilize analytics to track performance, identify trends, and proactively adjust strategies for impact. 

  • Partner with editorial, marketing, and product teams to align multiplatform priorities. 

  • Advocate for platform-first thinking in newsroom workflows and content planning cycles. 

  • Surface insights and share platform learnings across partner teams within NBC News and the NBCU family to build broader strategic alignment. 

  • Act as admin for business portfolios of key platforms and ensure cyber security best practices are implemented across teams, working collaboratively with NBCU Cyber team and NBCU Local Tech Ops.  

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital media, audience development, or social media strategy with a focus on YouTube and shortform video
  • Proficient in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Proven experience managing social strategies across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube, ideally within a news, media, or multiplatform environment
  • Strong understanding of content trends, creator ecosystems, and algorithm dynamics on social video platforms
  • Experience working with large, multi-brand portfolios and creating systems that scale
  • Demonstrated ability to build infrastructure, lead trainings, and manage organizational change
  • Deep analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and apply it to strategy
  • Familiarity with podcasts and how to grow their visibility across social platforms
  • Experience with Spanish-language content and/or multicultural audiences is a plus
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago or Miami

This position has been designated as hybrid, which currently requires contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week. Beginning January 5, 2026, hybrid employees will be required to work from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
