Outside Plant Engineer II
Skills
- Experience designing OSP telecom infrastructure for fiber and copper networks
- Working knowledge of FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, SONET and fiber transport technologies
- Familiarity with NESC and telecom engineering standards
- Experience with permits, right-of-way, easements, and municipal coordination
- Proficiency with CAD and engineering databases; comfortable with field surveying tools
- Ability to perform cost estimating and budget tracking for projects
- Strong ability to interpret site plans and identify existing utilities and plant
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed OSP engineering: estimating, analyzing, designing, and planning for aerial, buried, and conduit fiber and copper networks
- Develop pole, conduit route, and buried facility designs to company and industry standards
- Prepare and interpret engineering plans, drawings, loop loss designs, and technical reports
- Design and support network infrastructure including FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, SONET and other transport technologies
- Collect field data, take measurements, and perform site inspections to support design and construction planning
- Prepare and submit permit packages and coordinate with local jurisdictions and regulatory agencies
- Track project budgets and compare estimates to actual costs
- Maintain project documentation, property records, and engineering reports
- Perform quality control reviews and periodic inspections to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Collaborate with engineering teams, municipalities, retail/wholesale providers, and other stakeholders
- Develop engineering work orders for routine and complex OSP projects, including road moves
- Provide technical guidance on network equipment installation and operational functionality
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field preferred
