Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Facilities Engineering Intern to support the design, documentation, and operation of electrical systems across our facilities and manufacturing infrastructure in El Segundo. This role offers hands-on experience working on real projects spanning design, construction, and day-to-day operations of critical electrical systems.
Responsibilities
Support the development and maintenance of electrical documentation, including single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and as-built drawings, ensuring accuracy and proper revision control.
Assist in updating drawing packages to reflect field changes, redlines, and commissioning feedback across active projects.
Contribute to lighting design and layout, including fixture selection, basic load calculations, and coordination with architectural and MEP teams.
Assist in reviewing machine electrical specifications, ensuring alignment with facility infrastructure and supporting design coordination and construction activities.
Review and track equipment submittals, verifying compliance with project specifications, electrical requirements, and applicable codes.
Apply and interpret NEC, NFPA, and relevant electrical codes to support safe and compliant design and documentation.
Support field activities through site walks, documenting existing conditions and helping reconcile design intent with installed systems.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and vendors to gather technical information and resolve documentation gaps.
Maintain organized engineering records, drawing sets, and project files across multiple concurrent projects.
Assist with basic electrical calculations and data analysis to support infrastructure planning and system design.
Support planned and unplanned power outages, including coordination, execution, and system recovery, while assisting with electrical safety training programs and contributing to preventive maintenance of facility electrical systems.
Gain exposure to low- and medium-voltage systems, with opportunities to support projects involving substations and utility interfaces.
Basic Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Basic understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, including power distribution
Familiarity with electrical drawings, schematics, or single-line diagrams
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to NEC, NFPA, or other electrical codes and standards
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools
Interest in facilities, infrastructure, or industrial/manufacturing environments
Exposure to medium-voltage systems or substations
