Launch Reliability Engineer - job 1 of 3

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars and is hiring a Launch Reliability Engineer to act as the mission assurance advocate at the Vandenberg launch site. The role partners with Flight Reliability, Launch Reliability, and Launch Operations to ensure vehicle, payload, and spacecraft processing is designed and executed reliably across Falcon 9, Dragon, and Starship programs.

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics
  • 1+ years professional or internship experience in quality, manufacturing, or design engineering
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Familiarity with Lean principles, Six Sigma, APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and metrology
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as mission demands
  • Ability to pass an Air Force background check and meet ITAR eligibility requirements

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliable launches by optimizing vehicle, payload, and spacecraft processing and refurbishment procedures
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams responsible for vehicle and launch pad systems to maintain process health
  • Identify high-risk processes and implement process improvements to achieve operational excellence
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for recurring or high-impact failures
  • Maintain feedback loops to drive hardware inputs, use data to prioritize and resolve high-impact issues
  • Participate in PDR/CDR to ensure design for quality (DFQ), manufacturability (DFM), risk mitigation, and appropriate test/inspection strategies

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics (required)
  • Bachelor’s in aerospace or mechanical engineering preferred
