Propulsion Analyst, Chamber and Nozzle (Raptor) - job 1 of 2

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars and builds advanced launch systems including the Raptor engine. The Propulsion Analyst (Chamber and Nozzle) will perform structural, thermal, dynamic, and fatigue analyses using FEA and first-principles methods to ensure Raptor chamber and nozzle components meet performance and durability requirements while working closely with hardware and test teams.

Skills

  • Proficiency in statics, mechanics of materials, fatigue, dynamics, and/or heat transfer
  • Experience with FEA setup and post-processing
  • Ability to perform hand calculations to validate models
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Practical, hands-on approach to anchor models with test and hardware

Responsibilities

  • Perform static, thermal, dynamic, and fatigue analyses for Raptor chamber and nozzle components using FEA and first-principles methods
  • Document and present analysis methods, assumptions, and results to design and test teams
  • Define requirements and capabilities for engine/stage interfaces across flight phases
  • Collaborate with component design, hardware, and test teams to anchor models and drive design improvements
  • Validate FEA predictions with hand calculations and practical, hands-on checks
  • Deliver analysis on schedule and incorporate feedback throughout design cycles

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline (required)
