Zoning Planner II

The City of Fort Worth Development Services Department seeks a Planner II to support orderly growth and neighborhood vitality through zoning review, site plan and plat analysis, code amendment research, and public-facing presentations. The role requires research and data analysis to formulate recommendations, prepare staff reports, and collaborate with internal departments, boards, and community stakeholders.

Skills

  • Knowledge of zoning, land use, and site plan review processes
  • Strong written report writing and presentation skills
  • Data analysis and research skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to interact with the public and present to boards/commissions
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, plats, and landscape/site drawings

Responsibilities

  • Intake, analyze, and prepare staff reports for zoning changes, conditional use permits, variances, plats, and code amendments
  • Review site plans, landscape plans, building elevations, plats, and annexation petitions for compliance
  • Research prior and existing site conditions to determine nonconforming uses and reasonable accommodation requests
  • Assist the public with information on development applications and provide customer service to applicants and residents
  • Prepare materials and present technical findings to internal staff, boards and commissions, and neighborhood groups
  • Attend and support public meetings and hearings, including material preparation and follow-up
  • Assist in drafting code amendments and planning policy research as assigned

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Planning/Design, Public Administration, Urban Geography, or related field
  • Relevant coursework or training in urban forestry, arboriculture, landscape architecture, environmental planning, or forestry is a plus
  • Candidates without the degree may be considered with additional relevant work experience
