Skills
- Expert 3D CAD proficiency (CREO, NX, or CATIA V5) and PLM/PDM (Windchill, Teamcenter).
- Advanced application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance analysis; qualified design checker.
- Proven experience managing complex tooling programs from concept to production.
- Strong vendor management: SOWs, RFQs, fabrication oversight, and non-conformance resolution.
- Experience with cleanroom AI&T environments and tooling protocols.
- Familiarity with structural analysis and standards (ASME BTH-1, NASA SP-8077, MIL-STDs).
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills to customers and government stakeholders.
- U.S. citizenship or equivalent ITAR eligibility and active Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical authority for spacecraft tooling and MGSE from requirements through sustained production and configuration control.
- Design complex tooling: precision assembly fixtures, lifting/handling systems, gravity offload, optical handling fixtures, transport containers, and STE/ATP fixtures.
- Define and enforce tooling engineering strategies, standards, DFM/DFMA practices, and continuous improvement across the tooling lifecycle.
- Lead or manage tooling engineering teams: assign work, perform design checking, manage deliverable quality, and mentor staff.
- Manage full vendor lifecycle: SOW/RFQ development, source selection, fabrication oversight, non-conformance disposition, and supplier performance.
- Chair or co-chair tooling PDR/CDR and present tooling status, risk, and schedule to program leadership and government stakeholders.
- Define and enforce cleanroom tooling protocols and coordinate facilities for AI&T readiness and certification.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement CAPA for tooling anomalies.
- Maintain tooling configuration control across models, drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and test records.
- Develop and maintain tooling schedules and budgets, provide EAC inputs, and proactively surface cost and schedule risks.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM field required.
- Graduate degree (MS/PhD) strongly preferred for staff and lead roles.
