Senior Utility Electrical Engineer
Skills
- Deep understanding of DER interconnection standards (IEEE 1547 family, NEC, IEEE 519, ANSI C84.1)
- Experience with power systems modeling tools (SKM, PSS/E, ASPEN or similar)
- Utility planning and distribution system impact analysis
- Relay coordination and protection engineering
- Technical writing, presentations, and stakeholder communication
Responsibilities
- Evaluate distribution- and ISO-level utility impact studies and provide actionable feedback on required upgrades and cost reasonability
- Estimate interconnection costs and evaluate potential PV/DER sites for project feasibility
- Review interconnection drawings and application packages for utility and regulatory compliance
- Manage technical aspects of project interconnection processes and coordinate with utilities
- Perform power systems modeling including coordination and grounding studies
- Serve as technical lead with utilities and external consultants; scope and manage consultant deliverables
- Provide training, mentorship, and engineering guidance to internal teams
- Participate in state and industry technical policy working groups to advocate for DER-friendly standards
- Contribute to internal process and quality improvement initiatives and attend field design meetings
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar required
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
- PE license preferred
