The College of Integrated Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County seeks adjunct English instructors for the 2026 fall semester.

These will be part-time, fixed-term appointments. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon the needs of the University, funding, staffing requirements, enrollment, and external forces. For information on fixed-term contracts, please see UW System Admin Policy 1250: Job Security.

Job Details:

Courses that are to be taught will include:

  • ENG 100 - Intensive College Writing and Reading (multiple sections available)

  • ENG 101 - College Writing and Critical Reading

  • Other courses if needed

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate, in addition to teaching responsibilities, will hold appropriate office hours, attend orientation activities, and perform required course administration.  All students, faculty, and staff are required to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.

The Department of Integrated Studies is the singular department within the College of Integrated Studies located on the Rock County campus of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in Janesville, Wisconsin.  Started in 1966, the campus has approximately 850 students and offers courses in many disciplines including natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts.  Learn more about UW-Whitewater's Rock County campus here: https://www.uww.edu/rock

Conditions of Appointment:

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term. Contract salary is based on $1,666.67 per credit and is dependent on number of courses taught.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in English or related field

  • A Master's Degree in a related field and 18 graduate credit hours in English

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD or ABD status, and also to those who demonstrate successful college course teaching experiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

Wisconsin Statute 19.36(7)(b) provides that applicants may indicate in writing that their identity should be kept confidential.
