Technical Assistance Consultant, Employment and Economic Opportunity

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) seeks a Technical Assistance Consultant for its Employment & Economic Opportunity Program to design and deliver user-centered technical assistance, strengthen workforce and economic mobility programs, and help employers and partners prepare for the future of work — including AI-related opportunities and risks. The role involves needs assessment, content development, facilitation, research support, team collaboration, and contributing to business development, with options to work remotely across the U.S. or from a U.S. AIR office.

Skills

  • Experience designing and delivering technical assistance and training
  • Subject-matter knowledge in workforce development, career pathways, and economic mobility
  • Foundational understanding of AI implications, limitations, bias, and data privacy
  • Ability to integrate AI into practical tools and learning resources
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal communication
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Experience with research methods (surveys, focus groups, case studies) and report writing
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse clients, funders, and communities

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs sensing and synthesize findings to develop technical assistance plans
  • Design and deliver virtual and in-person TA, training, and capacity-building
  • Create toolkits, guides, fact sheets, training materials, and web resources
  • Facilitate meetings, communities of practice, and stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on employment, workforce development, and economic mobility
  • Support research activities including focus groups, surveys, and case studies
  • Draft and contribute to reports that interpret findings for clients and partners
  • Represent AIR with state, local, and site-based staff, funders, and partner organizations
  • Work on collaborative project teams and supervise junior colleagues as a task or functional lead
  • Contribute to new business development, proposal writing, and strategic planning
  • Manage project tasks or project-level responsibilities with increasing ownership

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 4+ years
  • Preferred fields: social sciences, public policy, public administration, workforce development, or related fields
