Technical Support Engineer (L1 / Frontline Support)

Databento is a fast-growing Series A startup offering modern APIs for financial market data. We're seeking a customer-focused Technical Support Engineer (L1 / Frontline Support) to serve as the first point of contact, triage issues, resolve common API and integration problems, and escalate complex cases to senior support or engineering with clear reproduction steps.

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or comparable technical background (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 2 years experience in technical support, QA, or engineering.
  • Working proficiency in Python and familiarity with APIs and SQL.
  • Familiarity with financial trading or market data concepts.
  • Experience or comfort using command-line troubleshooting tools and observability stacks is a plus.
  • Strong technical communication and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact for customer support inquiries across API usage, onboarding, authentication, integration, and billing.
  • Diagnose and resolve common, well-documented issues and provide clear, timely customer communication.
  • Escalate complex incidents to L2/L3 support or engineering with reproduction steps, logs, and context.
  • Maintain accurate ticket status, notes, and knowledge base entries.
  • Contribute to documentation, FAQs, and onboarding materials to reduce recurring questions.
  • Participate in frontline support on-call rotation.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
  • Comparable technical background or equivalent hands-on experience accepted.
