Staff Engineer – Experimentation Team
Skills
- Deep applied-statistics knowledge: hypothesis testing, sequential analysis, variance reduction, power analysis, frequentist vs Bayesian trade-offs.
- Experience building adaptive experimentation/ML systems (contextual bandits, Thompson sampling, Bayesian optimization).
- Proven track record designing warehouse-agnostic systems for Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift or similar.
- Strong backend engineering experience in Go, Python, or equivalent for statistical computation and services.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, large-scale data pipelines, and warehouse-native computation.
- Cloud and infrastructure experience (AWS/GCP) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Technical leadership, cross-team influence, and ability to translate statistics for product and engineering audiences.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the experimentation statistical engine: hypothesis testing, sequential analysis, variance reduction (CUPED, Winsorization), and power analysis.
- Architect and implement warehouse-native analysis that runs inside Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift with modular, warehouse-agnostic abstractions.
- Lead adaptive experimentation initiatives: contextual bandits, Thompson sampling, Bayesian optimization, and automated allocation strategies.
- Drive roadmap and product direction in partnership with product, design, and data science teams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Warehouse Integrations, SDK, Platform, and Data Science teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Mentor engineers, raise statistical rigor and system design standards, and provide technical leadership.
- Own operational excellence: monitoring, observability, incident response, on-call rotations, and robust telemetry/alerting.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline preferred (see preferred qualifications).
