Job Description

Universal Pictures International (UPI) is the international distribution and marketing division of Universal Pictures, responsible for the global release of Universal’s film slate across a diverse range of territories and business models. UPI works closely with regional and local teams to develop release strategies, marketing campaigns, and distribution approaches tailored to local market dynamics. Universal Pictures is part of NBCUniversal, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies involved in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information for a global audience. NBCUniversal is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.

The UPI Strategy & Analysis (S&A) team is a highly visible group that works closely with senior executives across UPI and Universal Film at the head‑office level (Los Angeles), as well as at regional and territory levels. The team partners with other business units within UPI on a wide range of strategic initiatives, including slate strategy, release planning, analytics, business development, systems and data, and box office reporting.

The Director of Strategy & Analysis, based in Los Angeles, reports to the Senior Vice President of Strategy & Analysis and plays a critical role in shaping and informing strategic planning and analytical decision‑making across the international business. Specific projects will include analysis, modeling, research, and recommendations related to UPI’s slate strategy, release planning, and business development initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:

Strategic & Analytical Leadership

  • Lead film analysis in support of UPI development, greenlight, and budget decision‑making
  • Own release‑dating and slate‑optimization analyses, incorporating genre dynamics, competitive landscape, and market capacity
  • Develop competitive forecasts by title, territory, and studio to inform senior‑level planning

Executive Communication & Insight

  • Prepare and deliver high‑impact presentations and overview materials for senior executives, filmmakers, and key stakeholders
  • Synthesize complex data and market trends into clear, actionable insights for leadership

Market & Industry Analysis

  • Monitor international industry and title‑level trends across key territories
  • Evaluate territory health, growth opportunities, premium‑format dynamics, and emerging competitive threats
  • Assess the international impact of new platforms, partnerships, and changes in windowing

Cross‑Regional & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Provide analytical support to regional distribution teams across Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific
  • Partner closely with the London‑based S&A team on multi‑region projects and recurring operational analyses
  • Support cross‑functional strategic initiatives across the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group

Data, Systems & Infrastructure

  • Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of UPI systems, data integrity, and business‑intelligence platforms

Qualifications

The role requires superior analytical, strategic, and relationship skills. The individual must possess the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior executives to business unit managers and 3rd parties. The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree, MBA preferred, with a minimum of 7+ years of experience in the media and entertainment industry
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize extremely large sets of data into cohesive takeaways
  • High proficiency with analytical tool suites, specifically Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with competency in data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, MicroStrategy, Tableau)
  • Proven project management skills

Desired Characteristics:

  • A thorough understanding of film and/or media market business models
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver high quality presentations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines

Additional Requirements:

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $140,000 - $180,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
