Responsibilities
- Develop and champion new thermal-optical, inorganic, and organic coating technologies from concept through qualification and production stabilization
- Define requirements, evaluate optical performance, and deploy optimized surface solutions with cross-functional teams
- Lead space-environment testing and reliability validation (thermal vacuum, atomic oxygen, radiation, UV, etc.) and iterate designs for durability
- Perform root cause investigations of material-related failures with hands-on lab testing of flight hardware and raw materials
- Provide material selection guidance and recommendations during hardware design reviews for performance, simplicity, and cost
- Conduct production process walk-downs to identify materials or process improvements to enhance reliability, rate, and yield
- Develop and publish material design allowables reflecting operational loads and space environments
- Mentor peers and serve as technical escalation for material-related challenges
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related engineering discipline (required)
- Master’s or PhD in a related field (preferred)
