This role is responsible for new product releases and manufacturing of optoelectronic products including lasers, amplifiers, super-luminescent diodes, gain chips, and modulators, and modules that contain several of these types of components. Responsibilities include customer interaction, new product releases, the transfer of new products into manufacturing and supporting manufacturing to ensure functionality, quality, cost, and schedule. The position requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team —Sales, mechanical, electrical, software/database, and electro-optic engineers— along with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs and processes deliver products that meet customer specifications. While based in Jessup, MD, occasional travel to other Thorlabs locations may be required.
• Provides new product yearly release plan and execute their roadmaps in timely manner
• Interact with customers and implement their needs into new product design
• Manage engineers and engineering technicians for efficient new product release process
• Guides projects through prototyping, testing, creating/approving bill of material and defining manufacturing procedures as part of New Product Introduction (NPI) process for NIR, MIR, LPS, Diode products
• Implements the product design within the schedule and budget parameters.
• Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design.
• Driving continuous improvement through the use of statistical process control (SPC) and gauge repeatability & reproducibility (GRR) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process change
• Tracks yields and leads cost reduction activities.
• Develops and maintains procedures and processes that support core technologies.
• Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and solutions.
• Understands and supports quality policies and objectives.

Experience:
• Minimum 7 years of engineering experience required in photonic industry
Education:
• Master’s Degree (or Higher) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Material Science or related field(s)
Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Good planning, prioritizing and organization and multiple priority management skills
• Strong analytical skills to real problem solving
• Ability to work in Clean Room Environment.
• Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment
The estimated pay range for this role is $135,000 - $ 186,000 annually
