Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical structures, mechanisms, and assemblies for satellites and on-orbit vehicles to meet performance, mass, and reliability targets.
- Develop spacecraft structural systems from concept and trade studies through prototyping and flight hardware, under senior engineer guidance.
- Design primary and secondary structures for launch loads (sine, random vibration, shock) per launch vehicle ICDs.
- Design mechanisms and deployment systems (hinges, hold-down/release, moving assemblies) for on-orbit operation.
- Package and integrate electronics and avionics within spacecraft structures considering thermal interfaces and harness routing.
- Support propulsion mechanical integration including thruster brackets and propellant line routing.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using NX and/or SolidWorks with proper GD&T.
- Prepare technical documentation, interface control documents, and support design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
- Develop and execute structural and mechanisms test plans for qualification and acceptance.
- Maintain design integrity and traceability in configuration management and PLM/MES tools.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Coursework or exposure to spacecraft or satellite systems preferred
