Senior/Staff Studio Engineer, Robot Industrial Design

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Studio Engineer to join our forward-thinking team and play a crucial role in shaping the future of Zoox's autonomous vehicle design. As a Studio Engineer at Zoox, you’ll not only lead collaborations across our design and engineering teams, but you will also be at the forefront of transforming imaginative concepts into functional, production-ready products. • Collaborate with designers and digital modelers to develop technically feasible vehicle concepts, guiding the evolution of early designs using first-principles engineering while preserving design intent for downstream development.

• Partner with advanced and production engineering to translate technical requirements and constraints into clear design guidance. Ensure designs are viable, production-ready, and support the transition from concept to production.

• Evaluate concepts for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost. Provide engineering insights to optimize designs for program goals.

• Ensure conceptual and production designs comply with regulatory, safety, and certification requirements by collaborating with homologation, policy, and safety teams.

• Own the organization and management of master-level 3D surface data, design CAD, and supporting documentation used for prototype development and engineering evaluation.

• Monitor industry trends, technologies, and best practices in automotive design and engineering. Develop new tools and workflows to enhance cross-functional collaboration and streamline design-to-production processes.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• 10+ years of experience in automotive design and engineering.

• Expert knowledge of automotive design, engineering, manufacturing processes, materials, fabrication techniques, quality, and supply chain.

• Proficient knowledge of global automotive regulation, homologation, safety, and policy standards.

• Expert-level proficiency in CAD and PLM Catia/3DX software and automotive industry best practices.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with a proven ability to lead technical discussions, influence cross-functional teams, and mentor junior engineers and designers.

• Direct experience in Studio Engineering, prototype, and advanced engineering development.
