Senior Software Engineer, Data Distribution
Skills
- 5+ years professional software engineering experience
- Proficiency in a systems programming language (Rust, C, C++, or Go)
- Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/UDP, sockets, MTU, multicast, TLS/mTLS
- Experience building or maintaining distributed systems (message buses, RPC, consensus)
- Familiarity with async programming models (async/await, event loops, futures)
- Comfort working with Protocol Buffers and gRPC
- Ability to read packet captures and use tcpdump/Wireshark
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Design and implement DSB features including gossip protocols, link-state routing, and flow control
- Extend and maintain the gRPC proxy layer enabling transparent service communication over the mesh
- Debug distributed networking issues spanning tactical radios, UDP/TCP transports, and mesh routing
- Collaborate with product and hardware teams to deploy DSB on new platforms and migrate from legacy buses
- Implement protocol-level optimizations for RF links (compression, prefix routing, QoS scheduling)
- Author RFCs and technical design documents for new protocols and APIs
- Build deterministic simulation/test harnesses that run production code for reproducible validation
- Improve observability with Prometheus metrics, Grafana dashboards, and CLI tooling
- Contribute to communication-layer security, including packet signing (ECDSA), FIPS considerations, and E2E encryption
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) is a plus but not required
