The Center for Media Engagement’s Content Creator will be responsible for posting on our social media channels (primarily Instagram, LinkedIn, and BlueSky). They will be responsible for planning, creating, editing, and sharing posts and will work with our communications lead to ensure posts meet brand standards. The ability to translate research findings into engaging social media content is essential.
General Notes:
The Center for Media Engagement is a research center that partners with newsrooms, social media platforms, and public and private organizations to develop research, tools, and strategies that improve media practices (mediaengagement.org).
Purpose:
To elevate the center’s work via social media by promoting our research, events, and other content related to our areas of interest.
Responsibilities:
Plan, create, schedule, and post engaging content across platforms, including Bluesky, Instagram, and LinkedIn
Own all aspects of content creation, including filming, editing, and adding effects, transitions, music, graphics, captions, etc. to posts
Develop creative campaigns and maintain content calendar
Monitor engagement, track analytics, and optimize future content based on results
Find and share the work of scholars, centers, and organizations that research similar topics
Monitor trends and social media best practices and discuss findings with supervisor
Attend center events and take photos and videos
Assist with additional communications tasks as needed
Required Qualifications:
Current undergraduate student at UT Austin
Proficiency with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, X/Bluesky, LinkedIn) · Proficiency with graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
Creativity and a keen eye for detail
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Excellent verbal communication skills and a proactive attitude
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated interest in center work/areas of research
Available to spread hours across several weekdays
Available to occasionally attend center events outside of normal hours in the fall/spring
Salary Range:
$15/hr
Scheduled Weekly Hours:
10-15 hours
