Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to support and strengthen the operational foundation of our People Operations function. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the accurate and compliant administration of payroll, employee benefits, and regulatory obligations across our distributed workforce.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience managing multi-state payroll and U.S. employee benefits programs, along with a strong understanding of payroll tax requirements, employment regulations, and operational compliance. This role requires someone who is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable navigating complex regulatory environments while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

As a key member of the People Operations team, you will work closely with People Operations leadership, Finance, and external partners to support payroll and benefits administration, monitor evolving regulatory requirements, and help ensure our programs scale effectively as the company continues to grow. This is a highly visible role in a fast-growing technology company where operational excellence, compliance, and employee experience are all critical to our success.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing team and play an important role in supporting the people and infrastructure behind one of the world’s leading cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end bi-weekly multi-state payroll operations for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations (including timecard and payroll input review, payroll adjustments, off-cycle payments, garnishments, etc.).

  • Partner with Finance on payroll operations, including general ledger alignment, payroll reporting, reconciliations, audits, and ensuring overall payroll accuracy and financial integrity.

  • Oversee payroll tax administration and compliance, including monitoring regulatory changes, interpreting jurisdictional requirements, maintaining SUI and payroll tax accounts, and resolving tax notices or discrepancies.

  • Administer U.S. employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, and voluntary benefits, ensuring accurate eligibility management, enrollments, life events, and payroll deductions while maintaining a high level of service and support for employees.

  • Partner with benefits brokers and vendors to support program administration, resolve issues, and assist with annual open enrollment planning, system preparation, and enrollment monitoring.

  • Maintain benefits data integrity and regulatory compliance, including managing plan documentation (plan documents, SPDs, SBCs, and required notices), troubleshooting eligibility rules and HRIS/payroll integrations, and ensuring ongoing compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable regulations.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for payroll and benefits, providing guidance to employees and internal stakeholders, resolving complex inquiries, and supporting the consistent application of payroll and benefits policies.

  • Monitor and maintain multi-state compliance across payroll, benefits, and HR operations by tracking regulatory updates, identifying potential compliance risks or gaps, and informing People Operations Leadership of required changes and recommendations.

  • Conduct periodic internal reviews to validate adherence to employment laws, payroll regulations, and company standards.

  • Support HR compliance filings, including EEO-1, BLS reporting, and other state or federal reporting requirements.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of People Operations systems and processes related to payroll, benefits, and compliance by partnering with People Operations leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational initiatives and improvements.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience administering multi-state payroll and U.S. employee benefits programs.

  • Experience supporting payroll tax administration, statutory filings, and regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.

  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour requirements.

  • Knowledge of U.S. benefits plan structures, including deductibles, coinsurance, copays, and eligibility requirements.

  • High level of integrity and sound judgment, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee information with discretion.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and accountability.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate solutions, and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll and benefits topics clearly and collaborate across teams.

  • Professional, service-oriented mindset with a commitment to providing responsive employee support while maintaining operational efficiency and confidentiality.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process optimization, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now (ADP WFN) or similar payroll and HRIS platforms.

  • Payroll certification, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).

  • HR certification, such as PHR or SHRM-CP.

Compensation

$60,000 - $75,000 + Bonus

Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.
