Surrogates and Influencers Director (Remote)

GiveDirectly is a high-impact nonprofit that delivers unconditional cash transfers to people living in extreme poverty and runs large-scale research on the effectiveness of cash. We are seeking a strategic, well-connected Surrogates and Influencers Director to design and scale our paid and earned creator partnerships, drive measurable awareness and donation attribution, and cultivate relationships with public figures and creators who can reach high-value donor audiences.

Skills

  • Proven experience building and managing creator/influencer relationships and campaigns
  • Strong project management and operational rigor in fast-moving environments
  • Ability to craft briefs and guide creators on mission-aligned messaging and creative execution
  • Experience defining and tracking KPIs for reach, engagement, and donation attribution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience managing and developing a small, cross-functional team
  • Deep knowledge of creator platforms (podcasts, YouTube, Substack, TikTok, X) and creator economy dynamics
  • Comfort engaging audiences and partners in tech/finance/high-net-worth segments

Responsibilities

  • Own and refine the surrogate strategy, measurement framework, and portfolio approach across GiveDirectly cause areas.
  • Identify, vet, cultivate, and maintain relationships with creators, public intellectuals, and other non-traditional media surrogates at scale.
  • Plan, brief, and oversee execution of earned and sponsored surrogate campaigns from concept through post-campaign analysis.
  • Provide content strategy and creative direction to align partner messaging with GiveDirectly’s voice and goals.
  • Define and report on KPIs including reach, engagement, and donation attribution; iterate based on results.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a small team (Surrogates Manager and Surrogates Associate) and collaborate cross-functionally with Earned Media, Marketing, and Fundraising.
  • Monitor creator economy trends, platform shifts, and audience behaviors to inform tactical and strategic decisions.
  • Travel periodically (~3–8 trips/year) and ensure at least partial overlap with East Africa Time on some working days.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Advanced degree optional/beneficial but not required
