Job Overview:

The Technical Advisor (TA) for Mental Health and Psychosocial Services (MHPSS) will support the Mental Health and Psychosocial Service efforts of IRC within the Resettlement, Asylum and Integration department (RAI). The TA will support RAI’s efforts in the U.S. to partner with and build the capacity of IRC RAI offices and other service providers to deliver high-quality services to refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced individuals and families, including mental health, psychosocial support, women’s protection and empowerment, and trauma informed case management. The TA is expected to integrate best available evidence and best practices with strategies to overcome barriers that prevent many forcibly displaced community members from receiving, benefitting from, and responding to safety and wellness services. The TA may produce training and materials to increase internal and external capacity to support individuals, children and families who have experienced forced displacement, trauma, and migration related stress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance to RAI offices and other service agencies on best practices, interventions and resources related to mental health, psychosocial support, women’s protection and empowerment, and trauma informed case management with forcibly displaced communities.

  • Develop and disseminate guidelines and resources for community outreach and education on mental health, psychosocial support, women’s protection and empowerment, and trauma informed case management with forcibly displaced communities.

  • Manage the process of MHPSS interventions being disseminated and replicated.

  • Develop and deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate training and related materials on forcibly displaced communities. Contribute to building a diverse workforce by developing the capacity of staff to deliver mental health, psychosocial support, women’s protection and empowerment, and trauma informed case management interventions and mainstream approaches.

  • Develop, support, and maintain relationships with various RAI office teams and external service agencies to best support forcibly displaced individuals and families.

  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with RAI office teams and external service providers to solicit and integrate feedback to continually inform the development of needed resources.

  • Provide ongoing analysis of program activities, including supporting monitoring and evaluation of efforts to determine and adjust approaches as needed.

  • Support business development efforts for initiatives at the field-level and across RAI, including contributing to proposal development and other funding opportunities.

  • Participate in team meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team.

  • Adhere to all IRC’s organizational policies, procedures and protocols including professional and ethical standards, client confidentiality, and privacy practices.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related mental health field. Independent licensure preferred.

  • At least five years of MHPSS related work experience.

  • Experience delivering survivor-centered services, including direct service to survivors of intimate-partner violence

  • Demonstrated experience with refugee and asylum populations.

  • Strong expertise on the impacts of trauma on individuals, families, and children.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical support and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills, including the proven ability to prioritize and effectively manage competing demands and complete project tasks on time.

  • Strong external relations and partnership development experience.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member with collaborative partners, the community, and clients in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment
