Senior Director of Business Development

Lit is a mission-driven nonprofit building research-aligned, sustainable reading ecosystems for K–12 systems, recently expanding into edtech with Bloom for K–2. We are seeking a collaborative, service-oriented senior sales and fundraising leader to own district business development, cultivate local philanthropic partners, and drive pipeline, proposals, and revenue strategy to ensure Lit can scale its impact.

Skills

  • Proven district sales experience across full sales cycle
  • Experience cultivating local philanthropic or foundation relationships
  • Compelling storytelling and presentation skills for superintendents, funders, and boards
  • Strong proposal and RFP writing skills
  • CRM proficiency and disciplined pipeline management
  • Sales forecasting and pipeline analysis capability
  • Contract negotiation and pricing model application
  • Cross-functional collaboration with program and operations teams
  • Comfortable with regular travel to partners and events

Responsibilities

  • Lead outreach, discovery, and qualification with school district prospects across the full district sales cycle
  • Design scopes of work and respond to RFPs with Managing Partners to align district needs to Lit’s model
  • Move opportunities from first contact through negotiation and signed contract, coordinating with Array Education
  • Cultivate local philanthropic funders to supplement district engagements and prepare CEO for major asks
  • Partner with Managing Partners on renewals to ensure alignment between contracts and program delivery
  • Craft proposals, shepherd negotiations, and apply pricing models to ensure fiscal sustainability
  • Implement outreach plans, client journeys, and prospect segmentation to prioritize high-potential opportunities
  • Manage marketing presence, collateral, events, and impact reporting in service of business development
  • Submit RFPs/RFIs and pursue state/district vendor list placements to expand market access
  • Maintain and update CRM to reflect pipeline data, outreach history, and relationship status
  • Analyze pipeline metrics, build sales and fundraising forecasts, and surface recommendations to leadership
  • Monitor market trends, district budget cycles, and funder priorities to inform outreach timing
  • Refine data processes with operations to improve visibility into pipeline health and revenue trajectory
  • Travel to partners and events as needed (up to ~40% annually)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Background or demonstrable experience working in K-12 education, education services, or nonprofit sector
