Director, Business Development

Team Rubicon is a mission-driven disaster response nonprofit seeking a Director, Business Development to build and lead a high-performing fundraising (sales) team. The role owns the full sales cycle—prospecting through close—while designing scalable processes, implementing CRM and pipeline systems, and creating handoffs to stewardship teams to drive repeatable revenue growth from corporate partners, foundations, and major donors.

Responsibilities

  • Build, recruit, and mentor a Business Development team and establish culture and accountability
  • Design and execute business development strategy, annual plans, and quarterly objectives
  • Create and implement end-to-end sales processes, CRM workflows, and pipeline management
  • Execute full sales cycle as an active hunter while modeling prospecting and negotiation for the team
  • Establish handoff protocols to Strategic Partnerships, Institutional Giving, and Individual Giving teams for stewardship
  • Set and achieve revenue targets, forecast accurately, and report performance to senior leadership
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with C-suite and senior decision-makers
  • Coach team members through regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and targeted training
  • Negotiate partnership agreements and work with Legal/Finance to ensure compliance
  • Monitor market/CSR/philanthropy trends and adapt targeting and strategy
  • Ensure data integrity, timely reporting, and accurate pipeline tracking
  • Develop sales collateral, proposals, case studies, and partnership packages
  • Drive retention and professional development pathways for BD staff

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, sales, or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated progressive nonprofit fundraising or business development leadership experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce or equivalent)
